#Printopia 2 mac
I will look if there is some setting in Printopia where one might checkmark things and leave only the 'Send to xyz Mac' option operational.īasically one either runs Printopia on each Mac that has USB printer attached, or run only one instance and share the other printers out and presumably as you say Printopia then sees then and shares them all the while being the only instance of Printopia on whole LAN. You'd think in today's green madness it would be reality (technically its possible)

I wish that all computers came with ability to be started up remotely or at least on schedule, not just shut down or restart. I don't like desktops to sleep because I cannot then log in remotely for support and maintenance, like via LogMeIn (WOL depends on too many things). But in this house I talk about the Mac mostly run 24/7/365 only with displays put to sleep. One advantage might be that you are more likely to find at least one Mac up and running and being able to print through it to that LAN printer. Because it calls each printer 'Printer xyz Pete's Macintosh', so if each Mac had Printopia installed you'd get one entry to print to networked printer from each Mac on Lan (since they all can print to network printer). Now with only one Printopia instance I only get the option to send to the mac where Printopia is installed.Īnd figuring it out, I now believe that with Printopia on all Macs would present galore of options indeed.
#Printopia 2 install
Only reason to install Printopia on all Macs is that it gives you the option instead of printing to 'Send to Mac', where instead of printing out you send the file to the Mac. (because this USB printer is higher scale photo printer and jobs may be even 50 or 100 MB raw camera pictures where it might make difference how you route to the printer. Its a question about reliabilty, robustness, speed. Makes me ask question I thought about last night - Is it better to use printer attached by USB cable to Mac via normal sharing out that printer by the mac its attached to or use the other option and use it via Printopia.
